Tattoo Aftercare Guide: How to Heal Your New Ink Perfectly

The First 24 Hours
Your new tattoo is essentially an open wound. When Jerry finishes your session at Dotlinetattu, he will clean the area and wrap it. Leave this wrap on for at least 2-4 hours to protect it from airborne bacteria.
Once you remove the wrap, wash the tattoo gently using warm water and unscented antibacterial soap. Use only your clean hands—never a washcloth or sponge. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel.
Days 2 to 14: The Peeling Phase
Apply a very thin layer of tattoo aftercare balm (or unscented lotion) 2-3 times a day. Do not drown the tattoo in ointment; it needs to breathe.
- NO Sun: Keep it out of direct sunlight.
- NO Swimming: Avoid pools, the ocean, and bathtubs. Showers are fine.
- NO Scratching: It will itch as it heals. Slap it gently if you must, but never scratch or pick at the scabs.
Handpoke vs Machine Healing
If you received a handpoke tattoo, you'll likely notice it heals much faster than a machine piece. There is usually very little scabbing and almost no "weeping" of plasma. However, you must still follow all aftercare instructions to ensure the ink settles beautifully under the skin.
Remember, a great tattoo is 50% the artist's work and 50% how well you heal it.
